BBC NEWS – Net-powered computer goes on show
BBC NEWS is reporting a complete PC powered entirelly by PoE.
The company, DSP Design, makes embeded and single board computers and has produced the first, that I’m aware of, fully integrated PC that operates solely on PoE.
The POET6000 sports a Fanless Geode processor, 6.4″ TFT display with Resistive touch screen, and Windows XP embedded on flash.
This is obviously not for power users, meant mostly for point of sale, shop floor automation, and kiosk use.
This could also be good for client-server applications, where all is needed on the desk is a dumb display. I’m a big fan of PoE.
