Today, we speak with Dave Kopel, author of Guns: Who Should Have Them? and editor of the book, Gun Control and Gun Rights: A Reader and Guide. Mr. Kopel is also Research Director of the Independence Institute, a regular contributor to the Volokh Conspiracy and runs his own website at davekopel.org where he discusses second amendment issues.

I don’t entirely agree on his vies on the legalization of marijuana, thought I do believe that drug control funds need to be shifted to more dangerous and detrimental drugs, at least for now.

As far as concealed weapons and gun rights, I’ve always agreed with the saying “An armed society is a polite society.” Law abiding citizens carrying concealed weapons make it dangerous to be a criminal, and that’s not a crime.

Beers and Barbecue with Milbogger Smash!!! /illc0mm/2006/10/25/beers-and-barbecue-with-milbogger-smash/ /illc0mm/2006/10/25/beers-and-barbecue-with-milbogger-smash/#comments Wed, 25 Oct 2006 23:21:13 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/2006/10/25/beers-and-barbecue-with-milbogger-smash/ Lt. Smash - Hi MomI’m about 2 weeks behind on my usual blogs… Anyway, if you don’t know LT Smash you should get to know him… Well, bookmark it and do it some other time, looks like he had a bad upgrade on his blog…

LT Smash, or Scott Koenig, was one of the original milbloggers. During the 2nd Gulf War Scott’s Navy Reserve unit was activated, Scott starting blogging through his tour mostly as a journal for his friends and family. He definitely gave me a good insight into what was going on over there, and really left an impression on me.

After returning from Iraq, Citizen Smash (as he now refers to himself) has spent his time combating the forces of evil (code pink and various other moonbats) by staging counter-protests at military bases and hospitals usually in the San Diego area, among other things. I’d give you more detail but I don’t want to get anything wrong, and I can’t check his site to make sure I’m accurate. Anyway, Glen Reynolds interviewed him a few weeks ago:

Listen as Scott describes his part in the new milblogger book, The Blog of War: Front-Line Dispatches from Soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, recounts his experience blogging from the war zone, and talks about his up-close encounters with antiwar protesters from Code Pink at Walter Reed Army Hospital. There’s even an audio excerpt of his somewhat Pattonesque bullhorn address to those protesters, which I’m sure they didn’t enjoy. But you may.

The podcast is up here. Check it out, he’s awesome. Man, I really wish his site was up…

That is all…
