Election ROI Analysis /illc0mm/2008/11/05/election-roi-analysis/ /illc0mm/2008/11/05/election-roi-analysis/#comments Wed, 05 Nov 2008 13:31:03 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/?p=265 Election ROI
This is a little something that I put together to look at the spending vs what was accomplished for the Obama campaign vs the McCain campaign. Obama definitely spent better per electoral, which makes sense, however McCain did better in all other categories. At the end of the day, however, the electoral is all that matters, and my theory that Obama paid too much is actually null and void now. I will admit when I’m wrong. Still interesting information. Lazy voters? /illc0mm/2008/09/30/lazy-voters/ /illc0mm/2008/09/30/lazy-voters/#comments Tue, 30 Sep 2008 19:52:57 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/?p=209 confusing_street_sign.jpgA simple question.

If we have to beg someone to register to vote and/or beg them to vote, should that person be voting in the first place?

If one is not motivated to vote in the first place, will they bother taking the time to research candidates and issues?

It seems to me that it becomes a case of, who has the most advertising dollars and who can show up on enough funny shows; a popularity contest if you will.

I know there’s nothing particularly earth-shattering about that observation, just thought I’d throw it out there.

The David Zucker Albright Ad /illc0mm/2006/10/26/the-david-zucker-albright-ad/ /illc0mm/2006/10/26/the-david-zucker-albright-ad/#comments Thu, 26 Oct 2006 14:54:53 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/2006/10/26/the-david-zucker-albright-ad/ So, the RNC had David Zucker create a political ad:

In the ad, Zucker, producer of SCARY MOVIE 4, recreates former Clinton Secretary of State Madeleine Albright’s 2000 visit to North Korea. During the visit, Secretary Albright presented North Korean dictator Kim Jong Il with a basketball autographed by former NBA superstar Michael Jordan. (Matt Drudge)

It gets better, I won’t ruin it for you. Apparently it was a little too offensive; I found it to be not only hilarious but very representative of the Clinton administration’s diplomatic policy. Way to go David, but too bad it won’t get used on TV. It’s already one of the most viewed videos on YouTube, so who cares. :) You can also check out the Pajamas Media podcast with David Zucker and Myrna Sokoloff, pretty good stuff.

CNN Jihadi Snuff Film /illc0mm/2006/10/25/cnn-jihadi-snuff-film/ /illc0mm/2006/10/25/cnn-jihadi-snuff-film/#comments Wed, 25 Oct 2006 19:02:29 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/2006/10/25/cnn-jihadi-snuff-film/ If you watch Anderson Cooper 360, you’re a sheep, but besides that you may have witnessed the “exclusive” footage CNN aired which showed Iraqi insurgent snipers assassinating American soldiers. Here’s the video from The O’Reilly Factor w/ Kirsten Powers and Michelle Malkin. Michelle said it best that CNN is just “being used as a tool” by the Iraqi insurgents. By the way, if you want to support the guys who’s job it is to counter-snipe these insugents check out American Snipers. Also check out Michelle’s VENT over at HOTAIR, some more detail on the history.

It’s not alright to show innocents like Nick Berg being beheaded or to show those poor people jumping from the twin-towers from 9/11/2001 and it shouldn’t be alright to show assassinations of soldiers (US or not) protecting the citizens of Iraq. No one needs to see it, and no one should see it that isn’t involved with tracking those guys down and bringing them to justice. Yes, report on it, but the footage is nothing more than propaganda. There is enough of that crap already on YouTube that we don’t need CNN or any other network showing it.

October 23 edition of MSNBC’s Scarborough Country:

Pat Buchanan:

“I find this really—I mean, this is appalling! Look, I’m not for this war. This is a snuff film, is what it is!”

Joe Scarborough:

While it‘s OK for us to show—possibly show these insurgents killing our troops, there are a lot of news networks, a lot of news executives, including the last one that worked at MSNBC, who was our former president, who wouldn‘t let us show images of 9/11 because he thought it was too disturbing for American viewers, and yet it‘s OK for CNN to show these terrorists…

I want to read what the CNN executive who worked on Anderson Cooper‘s show had to say. And I‘m not judging Anderson Cooper or CNN yet. I want to finish this debate. He said, “Our goal, as always, is to present the unvarnished truth as best as we can.”I—I—you know what, thought? I don‘t want to judge him, but I think that‘s a load of crap

Pat Buchanan:

I will. Look—look, “the New York Times” has a saying, “All the news that‘s fit to print.” I don‘t to want to see those guys falling out of that tower. I don‘t think American people should see it. We know it happened. What‘s wrong with this is this is not news. This is a little propaganda piece. It‘s titillating. It‘s exciting. And it‘s appalling and disgusting because it shows people have no concern or care! All they‘re going for—they‘re going for titillation. They‘re going for audience. And to show this type of thing—and frankly, I object to the government of the United States—these are our soldiers, whether you like the war or not… (interrupted) … and you shouldn‘t show this sort of thing!

Red Phoenix /illc0mm/2006/10/05/red-phoenix/ /illc0mm/2006/10/05/red-phoenix/#comments Thu, 05 Oct 2006 18:15:36 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/2006/10/05/red-phoenix/ Kim Jong-IlIf you haven’t read the book, Red Phoenix, I suggest you do it now because it’s about to happen for real to some extent, some quotes from the sites below:

The US:

“It can have a future or it can have these weapons,” said Chris Hill. “It cannot have both.”

South Korea:

“Our government clearly reconfirms our position that we will never accept North Korea’s possession of nuclear weapons,” spokesman Chu Gyu-ho said. “And we urge North Korea to immediately cancel their plan for a nuclear test.”

China:

North Korea’s announcement that it plans to carry out a nuclear test is worrying its last remaining ally, China. Chinese officials are urging Pyongyang to exercise “calm and restraint” – but have stopped short so far of publicly warning the North or threatening any type of sanctions.

Russia:

Sergei Ivanov, Russia’s defense minister: “I am counting on the North Korean leadership to demonstrate restraint, caution and responsibility on this issue. [Nuclear] tests could inflict ecological damage on Russia.”

United Nations:

Secretary-General Kofi Annan on the DPRK “to exercise utmost restraint and adhere to the international community’s norm on nuclear testing and also observe the current moratorium.”

North Korea:

The U.S. has become more frantic in its military exercises and arms build-up on the peninsula and in its vicinity for the purpose of launching the second Korean war since it made a de facto “declaration of war” against the DPRK through the recent brigandish adoption of a UNSC resolution.

Mark Foley is a Pervert /illc0mm/2006/10/04/mark-foley-is-a-pervert/ /illc0mm/2006/10/04/mark-foley-is-a-pervert/#comments Wed, 04 Oct 2006 14:21:25 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/2006/10/04/mark-foley-is-a-pervert/ I know it’s not news, but Cracked put together a reenactment on YouTube that’s both funny and deeply disturbing.

Click here to view embeded video.

And of course, as a friend and I predicted a day or so ago. Mark Foley now claims his perverted IMs are the result of his molestation by a clergyman 40 years ago. Of course Foley won’t elaborate as to the identity of the clergyman or the church but Foley is supposedly Roman Catholic, yay for us… Remember, in this day and age nothing is your fault, there is always someone or something to blame. Although the article states:

“Mark does not blame the trauma he sustained as a young adolescent for his totally inappropriate”e-mails and instant messages, Roth said.”He continues to offer no excuse whatsoever for his conduct.”

We all know there is no other reason to bring that up unless you’re using it to deflect blame. That is all.

Darfur: Countdown to Genocide /illc0mm/2006/09/05/darfur-countdown-to-genocide/ /illc0mm/2006/09/05/darfur-countdown-to-genocide/#comments Tue, 05 Sep 2006 12:49:42 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/2006/09/05/darfur-countdown-to-genocide/ Darfur MapThe UN is ineffective as usual. After the US brokered a Darfur peace deal in May, the UN promised to deliver a peacekeeping force to enforce the accord. Two month later, in typical UN fashion, no troops and no word if and when they will be deployed.

Why should you care? I’ll let the guys over at TCSDaily take this, since they’re professionals:

After the United States helped broker a Darfur peace deal in May, the United Nations promised to come to the rescue with a peacekeeping force capable of enforcing the accord. But, as Darfur faded from public consciousness, the world body has again proven itself utterly ineffective. As the feeble and largely symbolic African Union force (itself indifferent at best to the continuing rapes and murders) prepares to leave the region in five weeks, Darfur is on the brink of massive human killing with no international force forthcoming. The UN’s own chief of humanitarian operations, Jan Egeland, conceded in a recent interview that mass murder is about to begin on a tremendous scale, while rapes and individual killings are already the rule, not the exception. (Systematic sexual violence against women, we recall, is the hallmark of the crimes against humanity perpetrated by the Sudanese regime’s Janjaweed militia in Darfur. Even after they have been driven from their homes into wretched camps, Darfuri women still must venture out to fetch wood and water, putting themselves at risk.)

It seems to be the theme of the region, just like in Somalia, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, and Uganda just to name a few. The UN only seems to move when the casualty rate gets to a certain number, but it’s never a set number mind you. (hat tip: Instapundit.com)

UN: SELF-DEFENSE IS NOT A RIGHT /illc0mm/2006/09/03/un-self-defense-is-not-a-right/ /illc0mm/2006/09/03/un-self-defense-is-not-a-right/#comments Sun, 03 Sep 2006 18:35:59 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/2006/09/03/un-self-defense-is-not-a-right/ un_question.gifInstapundit.com:

SELF-DEFENSE IS NOT A RIGHT, according to a U.N. Report. David Hardy has some thoughts. “As might be expected from the source, the concept of ‘right’ is rather ineptly socialist: rights are what you may ask the government to do for you.”

Ted Stevens attempt to squash Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act (S. 2590) /illc0mm/2006/08/31/ted-stevens-attempt-to-squash-federal-funding-accountability-and-transparency-act-s-2590/ /illc0mm/2006/08/31/ted-stevens-attempt-to-squash-federal-funding-accountability-and-transparency-act-s-2590/#comments Thu, 31 Aug 2006 23:29:30 +0000 illc0mm /illc0mm/2006/08/31/ted-stevens-attempt-to-squash-federal-funding-accountability-and-transparency-act-s-2590/ WELCOME TO THE INTERNETS! photo credit: http://photos1.blogger.com/blogger/803/3347/1600/stevens%20mario.jpgCAGW is reporting that everyone’s favorite guardian of the Internet tubes was the one whoe placed a ‘secret’ hold on the Federal Funding Accountability and Transparency Act of 2006 (S. 2590).

The bipartisan legislation, introduced by Sens. Tom Coburn (R-Okla.) and Barack Obama (D-Ill.), will establish a public database for $800 billion worth of federal grants and contracts. An anonymous hold had been placed on the legislation, preventing it from moving forward. Grassroots pressure from a coalition of groups and bloggers from across the political spectrum prompted Sen. Stevens to confirm, through a spokesperson, that he is the one blocking the bill.

“This comes as no surprise as Sen. Stevens is the top porker in Congress,” CAGW President Tom Schatz said. “He was always a logical suspect.”

Since 1999, the Alaska delegation has brought home more than $3 billion in federal pork, thanks mostly to former Senate Appropriations Committee Chairman Stevens. The state has ranked number one in pork per capita since CAGW began calculating the statistic in 2000, pulling in $489.87 worth of pork per resident in 2006. In December 2003, The Los Angeles Times revealed how Sen. Stevens made millions of dollars from investments with businessmen who received government contracts or other aid through his legislative efforts.

The Act would create a public website with an easily searchable database of the name and amount of every federal grant, contract or award of $25,000 or more. The alternative approaches for obtaining this information are generally considered to be too complex for the general public. This would obviously make it easier for tax payers to see money going to the future bridges to nowhere.

The Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee unanimously passed the measure on July 27, 2006 and it was on its way to full Senate passage when an unknown Senator placed a “secret hold” on the bill. According to Senate rules, the bill will never come to a vote as long as the hold continues. Holds are an unofficial part of Senate parliamentary tradition that allow a single senator to block a measure anonymously.

Welcome to the INTERNETS Ted… :)
